UNFCCC CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE 2007

The Conference, hosted by the Government of Indonesia, brought together representatives of over 180 countries together with observers from intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, and the media. The two week period included the sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), its subsidiary bodies as well as the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol. Yvo de Boer, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, described the conference as a ‘culmination of a momentous twelve months in the climate debate’ and calls for ‘a breakthrough in the form of a roadmap for a future climate change deal’.

Best Energies Exhibition Booth in Bali 2007

The UNAA Victoria attended the Conference as part of the WFUNA delegation. In addition to observing the conference UNAA Victoria also facilitated an exhibition of the 2007 winner of the UNAA World Environment Day Awards' Greenhouse Challenge Award - BEST Energies. The exhibition booth featured information about Australian-developed slow pyrolysis technology which is leading the world in carbon negative (removing CO2 from the atmosphere) renewable energy. This technology converts biomass into a useable form of energy and Agrichar, a carbon sequestering soil amendment. The commercial uptake of the BEST Energies pyrolysis technology will result in significant carbon sequestration and GHG mitigation as well as the long-term sustainability benefits of increased soil health and therefore agricultural productivity.
