Status of Women Committee
The UNAA (Victorian Division) Status of Women Committee acts as a forum for the discussion of issues that impact on the quality of women's lives in Victoria. Issues are referred to and from member organizations. Meetings are held monthly at a central city location in Melbourne. Please click here to download the Status of Women Committee brochure. Aims: - To examine and where necessary to take action with regard to all factors - political, educational, economic, legal and social - which affect the equality and status of women in Victoria.
- To work with UNAA (Victorian Division) and in the community to promote understanding of the work of the UN especially as it impacts on women.
- To work for the adoption and ratification of UN conventions and protocols relevant to women, especially the Optional Protocol to CEDAW.
- To work for the adoption of the Millenium Development Goals in general and specifically those aimed to advance the status of women.
Wider Representation State UNAA Status of Women Committees work with other women's organisations, and have representation on the Federal Executive of the United Nations Association of Australia. The UNAA Status of Women Network (SOWN) - is a member of the national WomenSpeak Coalition. Membership: - Open to individual members and affiliated groups of the UNAA (Victorian Division) who share the aims of the Status of Women Committee. In particular, women's non-government organisations, which have consultative status to the UN through the Economic and Social Council.
- Representatives of relevant government departments may be involved as ex-officio members of the Status of Women Committee.
- Member organisations are entitled to send a representative to Status of Women Committee meetings.
- Other interested organisations or individuals must make special application to the Status of Women Committee for membership.
