Model UN Conferences in Schools
In support of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, in 2006 the United Nations Association of Australia introduced an interactive education program in secondary schools. Expanding on the work of its successful university Model United Nations Conference (MUNC) program. In 2006, the UNAA ran this exciting program throughout Victorian secondary schools in a series of 1-day and 3-day long Model UN Conferences for students in year 9 and over. The school Model UN Conference program is specially designed to cater for secondary school students and aims to enhance students understanding of complex global issues, the United Nations system, and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in international affairs. The program engages students in a unique, constructive and interactive educational process which endeavors to stimulate an interest in international affairs as well as cross-cultural understanding. Skills which are fundamental to the development of global citizens. MODEL UN CONFERENCE PROGRAM 2010

"I was impressed by the way in which the Conference facilitated intelligent, respectful discussion and debate between students from different schools. It was particularly fantastic to see them engaging in discussion during the break times. This is a powerful, stimulating way to inspire in young people a genuine interest in international politics and the world in which they live." Anneleis Chaplin, Croydon Secondary College
