Membership

SOWC members meet monthly and are actively involved in SOWC’s work. Members include representatives from women’s member-based, non-government organisations with consultative status at the UN through ECOSOC.
Eligibility

To be a SOWC member you must be an individual or organisational member of the UNAA Victoria and share the aims and core values of the Status of Women Committee.

SOWC offers internship placements for a university student or recent graduate each semester. Interns work in the UNAA Victoria office 2-3 days per week for a minimum of 3 months.

Internships

Interns assist SOWC with research on a key women’s rights issue on the UN agenda and provide program support for current activities.

Key selection criteria:

  • Interest in gender equality, empowerment and women’s rights issues.
  • Undertaking an undergraduate/graduate degree in related area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a professional manner
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as in a team
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing work of a professional standard
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe InDesign/Photoshop an advantage
