About the Environment and Sustainability Committee (E&SC)

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Environment and Sustainability Committee as one of the Association’s working groups.

The E&SC will address the broader areas of Environment and Sustainability both in the context of the United Nations systems and programs and also as a consultative and advisory voice for the UNAA, its membership and Victorians more broadly.

Objectives of the E&SC:

  • To advocate, monitor, facilitate activities and promote dialogue on the programs and positions of the United Nations in relation to Environment and Sustainability.
  • To advise the UNAA on issues relating to its own programs and services to reflect UN positions.
  • To develop new initiatives that complement Environment and Sustainability activities and the work of the Association.

Focus Areas:

  • Climate Change and Energy
  • Natural Resources Management – Water – Land – Biodiversity - Food security - Oceans - Space
  • Sustainability development and practice
  • Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
  • Working to progress the “Green Economy”
  • Public/stakeholder education and professional development
  • Government policy/program dialogue, review and development

The E&SC will achieve its objectives through the following activities:

  • Standing referral and advisory group to the UNAA, World Environment Day Awards and Environmental/sustainability focused education and training events.
  • Liaison with Agencies, UN Departments and Programs and others partners to achieve objectives.
  • Related public education programs and forums and advocacy work.
  • Development of strategic partnerships and a liaison role with government, business and NGO community in relation to objectives.
