We engage the Australian community on key issues on the UN agenda and provide an information and referral service to the community. We inform and educate the Australian public on UN priorities such as: sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, the environment, climate change, global health, the Millennium Development Goals, the UN Global Compact, humanitarian action, peace and security.
We seek to strengthen global citizenship by linking Australians with the UN and the global network of UN Associations. We work to empower and inspire Australians to take local actions and constructively engage with issues of global concern.
We achieve these priorities through our public education programs for all sectors of the Australian community. We work with schools, universities, NGOs, community groups, governments and businesses to raise awareness of the United Nations and its work, and address critical challenges currently facing the international community.
By encouraging active engagement and dialogue between the Australian public and the UN, the Association seeks to contribute to building a strong, relevant and effective UN in the 21st Century.
We run a number of ongoing programs and activities in support of the UN and its key priorities including:
- Annual national World Environment Day Awards and Media Peace Awards;
- Model UN Conferences for schools, universities and professionals;
- Public forums, seminars and speaker sessions; and
- Global Citizenship Education Programs on corporate sustainability leadership, business and human rights and the MDGs.
